Personal Insurance BC  /  ICBC Autoplan Brokers, Lower Mainland
ICBC (opens in a new tab) Autoplan · personal & commercial vehicles

Plates, renewals and transfers, at a counter, usually while you wait.

We are an Autoplan broker. Walk into any of our three branches with your papers and it gets done. Delta is open seven days a week, until 9pm most days, useful when a vehicle purchase happens on a Sunday. You do not have to come in, either. Every branch can handle Autoplan work remotely, so call us and we will tell you what yours needs.

The short answer

Can I renew my ICBC insurance without an appointment?

Yes. Walk into any S&S branch during opening hours with your current insurance papers and your driver’s licence, and we will renew it at the counter. There is no appointment, no ticket and no online form to complete first. Most renewals take a few minutes.

What it costs you

If the rate class is wrong for how the vehicle is actually used, a claim can be affected. And basic third-party liability is a floor, not a ceiling, anything above it comes out of your own pocket.

The live lights at the top of this page show which branches are open right now.

At our counters

Drivers new to BC

What to bring to the counter.

Renewing

Your current insurance papers and your driver’s licence. That is usually all of it.

Buying a vehicle privately

The signed transfer form, the seller’s information, your licence, and the vehicle details.

New to BC

Your licence, and a letter of experience from your previous insurer if you can get one. It can affect what you pay.

Being straight with you

How BC auto insurance works, plainly.

Basic cover is the same wherever you go. The advice is not.

In British Columbia, basic Autoplan comes from ICBC, and the price of that basic cover is the same at every broker in the province. Nobody can discount it, and anyone implying otherwise is being loose with the truth.

What differs is everything around it: whether your liability limit is high enough for the way you actually drive, whether your rate class matches how the vehicle is used, whether the optional cover you are paying for is the right shape, and whether someone will sit with you and explain the difference. That is what a broker is for, and it is why the counter still matters.

Worth reading next: who must be listed on your ICBC policy.

The three auto questions we answer most.

None of these are exotic. All of them cost people money when they are guessed at.

Is my liability limit high enough?

Basic third-party liability is a starting point, not a ceiling. A serious at-fault accident can exceed it, and the rest is yours personally.

Am I in the right rate class?

Using a personal vehicle for work (deliveries, site visits, carrying tools) can change the class. Getting it wrong can affect a claim.

Who else drives it?

A regular driver in the household usually needs to be listed. This is a straightforward way to get an unpleasant surprise at claim time.

An illustration

How this can play out.

A tradesperson carrying tools between sites is insured on a personal rate class. After an accident, the difference between how the vehicle was declared and how it was used becomes the insurer’s first question.

Where to go

While you are here

Ask about the rest

If you own a home or run a business, the same visit can cover those too. One conversation, one broker.

Declarations do the driving

What decides an Autoplan claim before the drive.

Auto cover in BC is built on what the policy is told: who drives, how the vehicle is used, and where. Keeping those three true is most of the game.

The rate class left behind

A car declared for commuting that now runs deliveries, or a pickup that became a work truck, is rated for a different life. Use changes are routine to declare and expensive to discover.

Drivers missing from the policy

Regular drivers belong on the policy, and who is listed affects both premium and claims. The new teen driver and the visiting relative who stays are conversations worth having early.

Territory and distance drift

Where the vehicle lives and how far it runs are rating facts. A move, a new job, a second home: each can change what the policy expects to be told.

Extras assumed, not chosen

Extended third-party limits, collision, comprehensive, loss of use: the optional layers are choices. Assuming a past renewal chose them is how gaps hide in plain sight.

Ten minutes at renewal walking through use, drivers and distance is worth it, because the declarations page is the claim decision written in advance.

Common questions

What drivers ask us.

Do I need an appointment to renew my ICBC insurance?

No. Walk into any of our three branches during opening hours with your current papers and your driver’s licence.

Is ICBC insurance cheaper at some brokers than others?

No. Basic Autoplan pricing is set by ICBC and is identical everywhere in British Columbia. What differs between brokers is the advice on optional cover, limits and rate class, and how easy it is to reach a human.

Can I pay monthly?

Monthly payment plans are available for many drivers. Ask at the counter and we will tell you what applies to your situation.

I use my car for work sometimes. Does that matter?

It can. Carrying tools, making deliveries or driving between job sites may put the vehicle in a different rate class. It is worth two minutes of checking, because getting it wrong can affect a claim.

Can you insure my boat, trailer or RV?

Yes, recreational vehicles and trailers are counter work too. Bring the details and we will sort it while you are in. There is more on boat and RV insurance.

I just moved to BC. What do I need?

Bring your driver’s licence and, if you can get one, a letter of experience from your previous insurer. Your driving history from elsewhere can count, and it can make a real difference to what you pay.

Come in whenever suits you.

No appointment. The lights at the top of this page show who is open right now. Bring your current papers and your driver’s licence.

Personal insurance

What are we covering?

Home, condo, tenant, rental property, farm or vehicle. Tell us the basics and a broker takes it from there.

English, Punjabi, Hindi, Italian, Cantonese and Mandarin are spoken across our counters.

What do you need?
Tick everything that applies.
City and postal code is enough to start. We only need the full address when we go to market.
Bring this to us a month early and you get a real comparison instead of a rushed one.
Has an insurer ever said no to you?
It is not a problem. It just tells us which markets to go to first.
Older wiring, a past claim, a suite in the basement, a period the place sat empty. Saying it now prevents a refused claim later.
How would you like us to reply?
We will use exactly this and nothing else.
No obligation, and no pressure afterwards.
