A family brokerage that grew up in the Lower Mainland.
Daljit Sidhu started S&S working alone out of a small family office, and he has been serving Lower Mainland families and businesses for more than forty years. Today it is three branches, more than forty people, and a brokerage whose work is recognised by the industry it belongs to.
Is S&S an insurance company or a broker?
S&S Insurance Services Ltd. is an independent brokerage in British Columbia, not an insurance company. That means we do not sell one insurer’s products. We hold relationships with more than 20 insurers and place each risk with whichever one fits it best. We have three walk-in branches: Vancouver, Delta and Surrey.
When an insurer changes its appetite or leaves a class of business, we move the client to a market that still writes it. You do not have to start again.
Our work is judged by the people who do the same job.
Anyone can call themselves an expert on their own website. Industry recognition is different. It is awarded by other brokers, and it has to be earned in front of them.
Commercial Broker of the Year
Awarded by the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia, judged by peers, not by customers or advertising.
IBABC Chair
We have served as President and now Chair of the provincial brokers’ association, helping set standards for brokers across BC.
IBAC national board
Joining the national Board of Directors of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada next year.
WHY THIS MATTERS TO YOU: THE PEOPLE WHO SET THE STANDARDS ARE THE PEOPLE HANDLING YOUR FILE.
One person, then one hire, then three branches.
A small family office
Daljit Sidhu started S&S working alone, one person, one desk, and clients who came by word of mouth.
The first hire
The business grew the slow way: one client telling another, until one person could no longer do all of it.
Three branches
Vancouver, Delta and Surrey, each a real office with a counter, open to walk in without an appointment.
A commercial brokerage
Today most of our work is business insurance: construction, builders risk, architects and engineers, contractors, manufacturing and wholesale, alongside the home and auto clients who have been with us for years.
We did not just open on this street. We helped build it.
Our Vancouver office sits in the Punjabi Market on Main Street, a district Daljit Sidhu helped establish. Over the years he has served on boards including South Vancouver Neighbourhood House and Canada Place Corporation, and as an Area Director for Greater Vancouver on the provincial brokers’ association board.
It is why a lot of our clients came to us in the first place, and why so many have stayed for a second and third generation. We did not just open on this street. We are part of it. Our Main Street office sits in the heart of the Punjabi Market, and we do business in English, Punjabi and Hindi. It is the neighbourhood we come from, not just the one we work in.
Four things we will not trade away.
A straight answer, even when it is no
If we cannot place your risk, we say so and tell you why. A quick honest no is worth more than three weeks of being managed.
One broker, start to finish
You are not passed between departments. The person who knows your file is the person who answers when something goes wrong.
Plain English on purpose
Policy wordings are difficult by nature. Explaining them clearly is our job, not a favour.
We keep looking
When an insurer withdraws from a class, we move clients to markets that still write it rather than letting the relationship end.
Insurance is hard enough in your first language.
Our team speaks the languages our neighbourhoods speak, so you can explain what happened in the words you actually think in, and be understood.
Three branches. Every one writes everything.
There is no “wrong” branch to walk into. Every office handles every kind of insurance and routes your file internally to the right desk.

What people ask about us.
Are you an insurance company or a broker?
We are a brokerage. That means we do not sell one company’s products. We hold relationships with more than twenty-five insurers and place your risk with the one that fits it best. When an insurer changes its appetite, we move; you do not have to.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk into any of the three branches. The lights at the top of this page show which offices are open right now.
Does each branch specialise in something different?
No, every branch writes every line. Your file is routed internally to the right department, so the office you walk into is simply the one nearest you.
What kinds of insurance do you focus on?
Most of our work is commercial: construction and builders risk, architects and engineers, contractors, manufacturing and wholesale, and general liability. We also handle home, rental property, auto and marine, and we take on risks other brokers have declined.
Do you handle ICBC?
Yes. We are an Autoplan broker, plates, renewals and transfers are counter work at any of our branches.
Come in, or start where you are.
Walk into any branch without an appointment, or tell us what you need and choose how we get back to you.
